Year of Faith

The universal Church calls us to observe a “Year of Faith” which begins 11 October 2012, the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, and ends on the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King, 24 November 2013. During the Year we are asked to nurture and strengthen our relationship/friendship/communion with the LORD through frequent reception of the Sacraments; study of the Bible, the Catechism, and the documents of Vatican II; and through daily prayer. We are also charged with bearing witness to the Faith in language and works & acts of love understandable to contemporary culture.
For more information, please see Benedict XVI’s Moto Proprio: Porta fidei, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith’s Note, and the Pontifical Council for the Promoting of the New Evangelization’s website.

Men of St. Thomas More!!

Consider joining the new Thursday morning Men of Honor Group.  Yes, it’s at 6:30 a.m. in the overflow room beginning September 6th. Start your day with prayer and fellowship (and coffee).

Now more than ever, men need a clear and specific spirituality.  Men need scripture and prayer.  Men also need to know that there are other men out there who are serious about their faith life.

Remember, an early start to your day can be an act of sacrifice and penance for sin.

Fr. Jim composed the beautiful Catholic Charities Centennial Prayer that appeared on the front page of the
September 11th, 2011 Sooner Catholic :

O God of the ages,

With every sunrise,
You gift us with work for our hands.
With every sunset,
You grant us rest for our hearts.
May the light of each new day
Give us faith in things unseen,
Hope for victories yet unrealized,
Charity for those who struggle.
May the dusk of each night
Bring us dreams of a better world,
Visions of our cause triumphant,
Love for the sacrifices asked of us.
Grant your Church yet another century of service,
Or time enough to build your Kingdom.
This we ask in the name of Jesus, Our Lord.
Amen and Amen.
By Father James Goins

Fr. Jim also recently composed a special prayer for STM's Altar Guild.

Thank you, Fr. Jim, for sharing these gifts of prayerful words of worship with us.
