A House for the church, serving many vocations

St. Thomas More and Sooner Catholic Campus Ministry is growing at an incredible rate. The Chelsea House at OU presents a solution to this growing flock: a parochial vicar who can be a dedicated chaplain to OU.

The Chelsea House at OU is not a short-term solution. It is a long-term investment in parish life and campus ministry.

Chelsea House at OU is intentionally designed to be more than a residence for the permanent clergy of St. Thomas More. It will be a true house of priestly life, formation, and discernment that can serve both the parish and OU at multiple stages of ministry.

The house will be home to:

The permanent clergy of St. Thomas More University Parish
Seminarians in priestly formation
Transitional deacons, completing their final six months of pastoral preparation
Priests at the University of Oklahoma for continuing education or sabbatical
Retired priests, offering them a dignified place to live
young men discerning the priesthood.

Strengthening parish life through priestly stability

Because Chelsea House will host priests at various stages of life and ministry, it directly strengthens every aspect of parish life at St. Thomas More.

The parish will benefit from:

Increased availability for Mass, confession, and anointing of the sick
More consistent support for sacramental preparation for children, couples, and families
Greater capacity for adult catechesis, parishioner and OU student Bible studies, and faith formation

The presence of seminarians and transitional deacons living in community with permanent priests allows both parishioners and OU students—especially families and young men—to see priesthood lived joyfully and authentically, helping to foster future vocations from within the parish and campus ministry.

The Chelsea House offers the permanent clergy of St. Thomas More a place where they can host parishioners and other priests across the diocese to build community through things like dinners or small events.

For seminarians and transitional deacons, Chelsea House will provide something increasingly rare: formation within a dynamic parish flourishing with multiple stages of life.

Here they will learn what it means to be a priest who:

Serves families as well as college students
Teaches children, youth, and adults of all walks of life
Lives a disciplined life of prayer alongside pastoral responsibility
Builds authentic relationships rooted in charity and truth

For priests in continuing education or retirement, the house offers a place of stability, fraternity, and purpose during their continued studies.
